Stara Sokolove Stara 12 Year Old Slivovitz

There’s a wonderful saying in Krivaja, a major plum brandy region of Serbia, that plum brandy is the ‘joyful tears of the angels’, and as Radisav Bogdanovic, the dapper found of Stara, says, ‘We take it literally.’
That’s because ‘the fruit must drip from Heaven,’ he says. Only fruits which drop down naturally are picked from his orchards though he will admit to shaking the branches.
Now, this attitude to his creations may be the reason why Stara has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards, amongst them from the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London 2020 for this 12 year old because who can say no to ambrosia, the drink of the Gods.
Only 3000 bottles of the 12 year old are released each year and despite being aged, it retains something of its vibrancy and fruitiness married to the well-balanced mellowness imparted to it from the oak cask.
Enjoy neat, but one of the pleasures of plum brandy is that it can be used in a warm cocktail.
