Ardbeg 1990 Airigh Nam Beist is was one of Ardbeg’s most popular whiskies, sadly now discontinued. Intensely smoked, slightly sweet, deep and flavoursome.
Nose: Sea spray and vanilla ice-cream infused with peat oil and finished with gooey fudge sauce. Fennel, pine nuts, lime and sherbet follow. With water, fruit salad meets dried fruit to give rum and raisin chocolate and heather smoke. Flavour: Bold peat oil, salty seaweed and bonfire smokiness. Crisp smoky bacon, burnt maple syrup and antiseptic lozenges. Ripe autumn fruits and chocolate limes slice through the smoke. Dark notes of black coffee and liquorice melt into powdery Parma violets. Finish: Long, sensate and dry on the finish with sizzling crushed dried peat, fresh pine nuts and walnut skin surrounding flint and oil notes.
