It’s generally agreed that cask contributes as much as 70% of the final flavour of the whisky. In recognition of this, Billy Walker, legendary icon of the whisky industry, has ensured that Glenallachie has an annual wood budget of over £2 million, which allows his team to source the very best and most interesting casks.
We have here something really interesting and delicious:
Glenallachie 11 Year Old Marsala Wood Finishis a Speyside single malt, aged for over 8 years in premium American oak bourbon barrels and finished for over three years in specially selected Marsala casks – Marsala is a fortified Sicilian wine.
It has flavours of heather honey, brown sugar, crème brûlée, vanilla, stewed fruit, butterscotch and toffee and comes at a generous strength of 48% ABV.
Its intensely bronze colour is driven solely by cask, and it is non-chill filtered.
