Known as the Willy Wonka of whisky, Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation at Glenmorangie and Ardbeg, is famous for his innovative and captivating flavours. He has done this by employing increasingly creative and adventurous cask-finishing techniques. With Glenmorangie 1998 Grand Vintage Malt, single malt, he has taken Glenmorangie to a new level of elegance by ageing it in new, carbonised oak casks that have been burnt out heavily, imparting ‘an intense colour and spice to the whisky’. Glenmorangie 1998 Grand Vintage Malt was matured in a combination of casks, including charred virgin American oak, ex-bourbon casks and oloroso sherry casks for more than two decades before being bottled in 2022. It has flavours of vanilla, chocolate orange, sweet chilli, sugared almonds and dark chocolate and comes at a strength of 43% ABV.
